The rubber breather pipes that connect to the carburettor are used to allow the exit of any petrol vapors that accumulate in the carburettor.
This prevents excessive pressure from building up in the carburettor itself, which could cause engine problems. In addition, breather hoses help keep dust, debris and moisture from entering the carburetor, thus keeping it running efficiently and the engine healthy.
Vent hoses in carburetors should be replaced when signs of wear, such as cracking, deterioration or hardening, occur.
